Setting Up a Template in CLIP Studio Paint for PEBI or Grid-Based Programs
When working with PEBI or grid-based programs, having a well-structured template in CLIP Studio Paint can greatly streamline your workflow. In this post, we'll take you through a step-by-step guide on how to set up a template in CLIP Studio Paint for PEBI or grid-based programs.
Step 1: Create a New File
To begin, create a new file in CLIP Studio Paint with your desired size, such as 512x512 pixels. Next, pick a color and fill the layer with it. This will serve as the background for your template.
Step 2: Add a Border
To add a border to your template, go to Edit > Change Canvas Size. Add your desired border size, which is typically 56 pixels for PEBI files. Note that all PEBI files have the same border size on all edges.
Creating a Layered Document
To create a layered document, start by creating a new layer below the first one by pressing Enter. Use the Rectangle Selection Tool to check the colored frame and border, ensuring the correct size. Activate the Information Panel by going to Window > Information, which is located near the bottom of the menu.
Next, select a different color to fill the second layer. Resize the second layer randomly to fit all the squares you need. Don't worry too much about the file size at this stage, as you can always resize it later if needed. Finally, group both layers by pressing Ctrl.
Layer Manipulation and Organization
To manipulate and organize your layers, use the "t" key for transformation and move layers to the side. Ensure that the same board is on every side, so borders will overlap. Zoom in to check and hit the correct pixel. Repeat this process until one row is finished, and then check if the file size is still correct.
Once you've completed this process, merge the background layers onto one layer and the working layers onto another layer. Finally, delete all unnecessary folders to keep your template organized.
Copying and Pasting Layers
To copy and paste layers, simply copy the new layers and then paste them. Repeat this process as needed.
Working with Squares in a Design Tool
To work with squares in a design tool, continue adding layers until you reach the bottom of your template or you have your desired quantity of squares. Decide whether you want to use and work on colored squares, empty squares, or a colored border (optional). Ensure that you can hide the layer on which you want to draw.
Organizing Layers
Finally, clean up all your layers by deleting unwanted ones and organizing the remaining layers. This will result in a clean markup for future use.
