How I Animate in Clip Studio Paint
Welcome to this episode of animating in Clip Studio Paint! If you're new to animating, don't be discouraged - start creating and experimenting, and you'll be surprised at how far you can go. In this episode, we'll be covering two essential tools that will take your animations to the next level: the transform tool and the animation folder.
Transform Tool Basics
To get started with the transform tool, select the layer or folder you want to work with. This is where you can begin to manipulate your objects and bring them to life.
Previous Animation Review
Before we dive into new topics, let's take a look at the previous animation we worked on. The only adjustment made was to the tail of the arrow to show more impact. This small change can make a big difference in the overall animation.
Upcoming Topics
In future episodes, we'll be exploring the mesh transform tool, which is a powerful tool that allows for advanced transformations and manipulations of objects. We'll also be diving deeper into the animation folder and its capabilities.
Scale Rotate Tool
The Scale Rotate Tool is an essential tool in Clip Studio Paint. To access it, simply click on it in the toolbar. This tool allows you to rotate an object, and by dragging the corners, you can shrink it down to size. Holding Alt while moving the cursor around will shrink the object down to the cursor size, giving you more control. Holding Ctrl (or Command on Apple devices) allows you to skew the object around a little bit.
Quick Transform Options
For quick transformations, right-click on the selected object to access a range of options, including:
- Vertical Flip
- Horizontal Flip
- Flip Back
- Flip Again
Mesh Transform Tool in Digital Art Programs
The mesh transform tool is a powerful tool available in most digital art programs, including Clip Studio Paint. To access it, go to Edit > Transform > Mesh Transform. This tool allows for advanced transformations and manipulations of objects, such as bending or warping them. An example use case is adding more impact to an animation by bending an object.
To use the mesh transform tool, follow these steps:
- Select the object to be transformed
- Go to Edit > Transform > Mesh Transform
- Use the tool to manipulate the object, such as bending or warping it
By using the mesh transform tool, you can add dynamic movement to an object in an animation, such as bending an arrow to create a more realistic impact effect.
Animation Techniques in CSP
In this tutorial, we'll be covering animating an object hitting a tree, creating an impact effect. To achieve this, we'll be using the following techniques:
- Starting with frames 2, 3, and 4, and keeping the original frames
- Instead of animating out by twos, going in by ones and back and forth
- Example: 2, 3, 2, 4, 2, 3, 2, 4, and ending with 2 (resting frame)
The importance of resting frames cannot be overstated. It gives the animation a sense of movement, but also allows for rests in between, creating a more natural and dynamic feel.
In addition to these techniques, we'll also be covering rotating and using the transform tool, as well as accessing the mesh transform tool in Clip Studio Paint.
