Extending a Song in Adobe Premiere Pro using AI
When working with audio tracks in Adobe Premiere Pro, one common challenge is extending a song to match the length of your video without making it sound like a "squeaky chipmunk" - a phenomenon that occurs when a song is looped or repeated. Fortunately, Adobe Premiere Pro has a built-in AI tool, known as the Remix tool, that can help extend a song seamlessly.
In this tutorial, we'll demonstrate how to use the Remix tool to extend a song and make it blend smoothly with the original track, avoiding the unwanted "squeaky chipmunk" effect.
Demonstration: Extending a Song
Let's say you have a song that ends before the video does, leaving a gap between the end of the song and the end of the video. Our goal is to extend the song to fill this gap without having to loop it or use the song twice.
Using the Remix Tool
To access the Remix tool, go to the "Tools" section in the toolbar and select the "Remix" option. The Remix tool will analyze the song and automatically extend it to the desired length. The extended song will seamlessly blend with the original song, avoiding the "squeaky chipmunk" sound.
Ripple Edit Tool and Remix Tool in Adobe Premiere Pro
In addition to the Remix tool, Adobe Premiere Pro also offers the Ripple Edit tool, which is located under the "Ripple" tab. The Ripple Edit tool allows for extending the length of a song by using Adobe Sensei AI. This tool is particularly useful when you want to add new elements to the end of a clip.
On the other hand, the Remix tool, located under the "Remix" tab, utilizes Adobe Sensei AI to create new music out of nothing. This tool can be used to add new elements to the end of a clip, making it an excellent option for extending a song.
Using the Ripple and Remix Tools
To use the Ripple and Remix tools, follow these steps:
- Zoom in on the clip to hover near the edge.
- Pull the tool to create new music using Adobe Sensei AI.
- Let go of the tool to allow the AI to add new elements.
- Listen to the generated music and adjust as needed.
- Cut the extended clip down to the desired length.
Fine-Tuning the Remix
To improve the sound of your new music created using the AI and remix tool, you can add effects to the audio track. Go into the effects panel and add an exponential fade or constant power at the end to create a smooth fade-off. This will give your remix a professional touch.
Adjusting the Duration
Once you've opened the audio track, you can access the Essential Sound panel. From here, you can adjust the target duration of the remix to make it longer or shorter. To extend the duration, simply pull the end of the target duration to the right and stop it at the desired length.
Notes on the Duration Adjustment
It's worth noting that the actual duration of the remix may be slightly different from the target duration due to the nature of the audio processing. In our example, the target duration is 20 seconds, but the actual duration ends up being 21 seconds.
Premiere Pro's Remix Tool: Customizing the AI's Creative Latitude
Under the Essential Sound panel, you'll find Segments and Variations. These options allow you to customize the AI's creative latitude when working with your music.
- Segments: Allows you to adjust the number of edits the AI makes, ranging from fewer to more.
- Variations: Controls the number of different types of variations you want, such as more melodies, choruses, etc.
By customizing these options, you can give the AI inside Premiere Pro more or less latitude to work with your music, resulting in a more tailored and professional-sounding remix.
With the Remix tool and the Ripple Edit tool in Adobe Premiere Pro, you can easily extend a song and make it blend seamlessly with the original track, all while maintaining high-quality audio that sounds professional and polished.
