Recovering Autosave Files from Digital Art Programs
As digital artists, we've all been there - you're working on a project, and suddenly, your program crashes or you experience a technical issue, causing you to lose your unsaved work. However, many digital art programs come equipped with an autosave feature, which can help you recover your lost work. In this post, we'll explore how to recover autosave files from two popular digital art programs: Fire Alpaca and Clip Studio Paint.
Recovering Autosave Files from Fire Alpaca
If you're a Fire Alpaca user, recovering autosave files is a relatively straightforward process. To do so, follow these steps:
- Open Fire Alpaca
- Click on the Help tab
- Click on Open Configuration Folder in the last tab
- In the configuration folder, double-click on Auto Save Backup
- This will open a folder containing autosave files
Note that this method assumes that Fire Alpaca's autosave feature is enabled. To ensure that Fire Alpaca is auto-saving your work, follow these steps:
- Go to the File tab
- Click on Environment Settings
- Check the auto-save option to enable the auto-save function
Fire Alpaca's autosave feature saves your work frequently, but the exact frequency is not specified. Each autosave is a separate file, not from the same project, and will auto-save on top of each other, replacing the last saved file. To find lost auto-saved files, simply follow the above steps to ensure auto-save is enabled and check the saved files to recover your lost work.
Recovering Autosave Files from Clip Studio Paint
Clip Studio Paint, on the other hand, has a different approach to autosaving. To find auto-saved files in Clip Studio Paint, follow these steps:
- Go to your Files
- Navigate to the Documents folder
- Locate the auto-saved files (no need to have Clip Studio Paint open)
To recover files in Clip Studio Paint, follow these steps:
- Double-click on
CLIP STUDIO PAINT DATA
- Navigate to the
document backup
folder - This folder contains auto-saved files of different stages of the artwork (e.g. line art, coloring)
To view auto-saved files, change the view to Extra Large Icons
by going to View
> Extra Large Icons
. This will display thumbnails of each auto-saved file, showing different stages of the artwork.
Enabling Auto-Save in Clip Studio Paint
To enable auto-save in Clip Studio Paint, follow these steps:
- Open Clip Studio Paint
- Go to
File
>Preferences
- Scroll down to
File
in the list and check the auto-save settings
Additionally, you can adjust the autosave interval to your liking. You can set the autosave interval to save every 15 minutes, or adjust it to a longer or shorter period of time (up to an hour). It's recommended to set the autosave interval to 10-20 minutes, depending on how much work you typically complete in that time frame.
Tips and Reminders
- If you use a different art program that also has autosave capabilities, please share how to access recovery files in that program in the comments.
- Adjust the autosave interval to a frequency that works best for your workflow and productivity.
By following these steps, you can recover autosave files from Fire Alpaca and Clip Studio Paint, and avoid losing your hard work due to technical issues. Remember to enable autosave and adjust the interval to your liking to ensure that your work is safe.
